Intec School of Insurance is a subsidiary of Intec College. Intec College has a proud 100 year history of training beyond the classroom. The Business Case

Intec School of Insurance had a wealth of information residing in over 1500 spreadsheets that needed to be consolidated. The information had been recorded in various formats, and there were multiple versions for the same event. Intec School of Insurance wanted to collate the information so that it could be managed in a meaningful manner. The data had to be transformed in a very short time, as a client needed the information for statistical purposes within weeks.

ViaData

ViaData was brought onto the project due to its considerable experience with data management and was tasked with re-organising the information. ViaData first extracted the data from both the spreadsheets and a Linux based system written in Java. The data was then cleaned and transferred into a new database. ViaData then used its Catalyst™ prototyping and development platform to generate an application to view, modify and report on the data. The functionally rich Catalyst™ based application which would normally have been a significant part of the project, was delivered in a matter of days, allowing ViaData to focus on the business problem (cleaning the data) and not building a data management application.

Solution

Intec School of Insurance now has a database of their latest collated data, from which they can extract meaningful management information. By using analysis tools created by ViaData, Intec School of Insurance can identify trends, draw conclusions and make recommendations that have an immediate, positive impact on their business. Such is the success of the system that it has now been extended to incorporate the majority of their corporate clients. An additional benefit of the system is the enhanced reporting capability, which has greatly assisted management in their business planning.
